Day Care Treatment

Day care treatments are procedures that finish in under 24 hours but are still covered by your policy.

What it means

Health insurance usually needs a 24-hour hospital stay to pay a claim. Day care is the exception — modern procedures like cataract surgery, dialysis or chemotherapy take only a few hours yet are covered because of medical advances.

Why it matters

  • Many common treatments no longer need an overnight stay, so this keeps them covered.
  • Plans differ in how many day care procedures they list; more is better.
  • Without day care cover, a short procedure could be wrongly rejected for not meeting 24 hours.

Practical tips

  • Check whether the plan covers day care broadly or only a fixed list of procedures.
  • This is not the same as OPD (clinic visits), which is a separate benefit.
  • For a planned day care procedure, confirm it is on the covered list first.
